Liposuction
Liposuction is a surgical procedure to remove stubborn fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, and arms.
Involves injecting a sterile solution (tumescent solution) into the targeted fat areas. This solution contains saline, a local anesthetic, and epinephrine to reduce bleeding and numb the area.
Small incisions are made in inconspicuous areas. A cannula (a thin tube) is inserted through these incisions to suction out the fat.
Follow pre-operative guidelines, which may include avoiding certain medications and arranging for post-surgery transportation and care.
Immediate Post-Op: Expect swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Compression garments are often worn to reduce swelling and support the healing process.
Initial Recovery: Most people can return to light activities within a few days to a week, but more strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks.
Long-Term Recovery: Full recovery and the final results may take several months as swelling subsides and the body adjusts to its new contours.
Results: Liposuction is not a weight-loss solution but a body-contouring technique. It’s most effective for individuals close to their ideal weight with localized fat deposits. Maintaining a stable weight through diet and exercise is important for preserving results.
Skin Elasticity: Skin elasticity affects the final outcome. While liposuction can improve body contours, it may not address loose or sagging skin. Additional procedures like a tummy tuck may be needed for comprehensive results.
Dr. Kim will discuss your goals, assess your suitability for the procedure, and provide detailed information about what to expect before, during, and after the surgery.
Liposuction can effectively enhance body contours and remove stubborn fat deposits, but it’s important to have realistic expectations and understand that it’s one component of a broader approach to achieving and maintaining a healthy body shape.
