Arm Lift
An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgery designed to improve the appearance of the upper arms. It’s typically chosen by individuals who have loose or sagging skin in the upper arm area, often as a result of significant weight loss, aging, or genetic factors.
This procedure involves making an incision on the inner side of the upper arm, from the elbow to the armpit. Excess skin and fat are removed, and the remaining skin is tightened. This method is best for those with significant sagging and excess skin. In addition to excision, liposuction may need to performed to removed stubborn fat that is still present in the arms.
An arm lift can be a highly effective way to achieve a more toned and youthful appearance if you’re struggling with excess skin and fat in your upper arms.
Anesthesia: The surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia.
Incision: The type and length of the incision depend on the amount of excess skin and fat. For a traditional arm lift, the incision runs along the inner arm from elbow to armpit. For a mini lift, the incision may be shorter.
Removal and Tightening: Excess skin and fat are removed, and the remaining skin is tightened and re-draped.
Closure: The incision is closed with sutures, and dressings or bandages are applied.
Initial Recovery: You may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the days following surgery. Pain medication and proper rest are crucial for a smooth recovery.
Compression Garment: A compression garment is often recommended to reduce swelling and support the healing tissues.
Activity: It’s important to avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for several weeks. Most people can return to work and light activities within a few weeks, but full recovery might take several months.
Final Outcome: Results are generally visible once swelling subsides, usually within a few months. The improved contour of the upper arms can lead to increased confidence and satisfaction with your appearance.
Scarring: Scarring is a part of the procedure, and while the surgeon will aim to place incisions in discreet locations, some scarring is inevitable. Scars often fade over time.
Realistic Expectations: Understanding what the surgery can and cannot achieve will help you set realistic expectations for the outcome.
