Breast Lift
A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to elevate and reshape sagging breasts. It involves removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to lift and support the breast, creating a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
The primary goal is to correct sagging (ptosis) and improve breast shape and position. It can also help with asymmetry and reposition the nipple to a more youthful location.
Ideal candidates are those who have sagging breasts due to factors like aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or genetics. Healthy individuals who have realistic expectations about the results are usually considered good candidates.
Several techniques can be used, depending on the extent of lifting required. Common methods include:
Periareolar (Circumareolar): A small incision around the areola, suitable for mild sagging.
Vertical (Lollipop): An incision around the areola and a vertical line down to the breast fold, for moderate sagging.
Anchor (Inverted T): Incisions around the areola, down the breast, and along the fold, for more severe sagging.
Post-surgery, patients can expect swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Recovery time varies, but many return to light activities within a week or two. Full recovery can take several months, and it’s essential to follow post-operative care instructions to ensure optimal results.
The results are generally long-lasting, though natural aging and other factors can affect breast shape over time. Maintaining a stable weight and avoiding smoking can help prolong the results.
