About Dr. Kim
Dr. Mary Kim grew up in Queens, New York. She attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA for her undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and then went on to Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and obtained her MD in 1997. She went on to do her general surgery internship at the New England Medical Center and then to SUNY Downstate Medical Center for her general surgery residency. She then spent two years at the prestigious NIH/National Cancer Institute as a research fellow in the Department of Surgery. She completed her Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery training at UMDNJ- Newark (Rutgers) in 2005. She also obtained her MBA from LSUS. After few years in private practice, she served as the Chief of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at LSU Health/Ochsner 2009-2023 and as an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery, has mentored many medical students and surgery residents. She is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons – having been on the examination committee to test plastic surgeons on their boards and annual examinations and now serves on several national committees of the ASPS. She is an active member of the Southeastern Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons as well as the Louisiana State Medical Society and the Northwest Louisiana Medical Society. She is an active member of the American College of Surgeons as well as the Association of Academic Surgeons.
Dr. Kim now joins Dr. Paige Bundrick and Dr. Barron O’Neal.
Her husband is Dr. David Kim who is the Chairman of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at LSU Health/Ochsner.
Her proudest accomplishment is being a mother to her three children, twins Lauren and Ryan who attend St. Mark’s Cathedral School, and her oldest David who attends Loyola College Prep.
As a mother of three and a female surgeon, she understands the aging process and the battle all women go through.
